Great change has taken place in the last half-a-year and I'm sure that further uproars lay await beyond.
Although the end is beginning, I feel like I'm just getting started. It took a long time for me to figure out how to order food, understand the buttons on the washing machine, unravel the bus system, learn to lesson plan, make a few friends, and climb a couple mountains.
I feel like now, just now, I've got the basics covered - just the basics. That's the main reason that I can't imagine living out my previously held dream of hopping from one country to the next every year for about six years. It takes so long to establish the essentials; I can't imagine re-establishing all of that so frequently.
Am I meeting my goals? Living the dream? Is it everything I thought it'd be?
Kind of. I mean, yes, it's cool, but it's normal, too. I have fun studying Korean; I've learned to eat spicy food; I'm often shocked by the different way of thinking; but, students still study; teachers still teach; I am still myself. You know?
I don't mean to sound cynical, but, in the dimly lit solitude in which I sleep, the reality of existence sinks deeply. Wake, sleep. Laugh cry. Live, die. It's the same in South Korea as it is back home in Oregon.
Traveling to a foreign country flips one's eyes upside-down, allowing one to see in a totally new light, but what is seen is still the same reality - cold and colorful as it may be.
The coming months will be long, no doubt. They will be short. They will be good. I will not be able to bear them. Whatever my mind, however I see it, they will be more of the same reality.
My focus will now be on, not only coping with, but thriving in, and growing up from, the realness that, for all, always surrounds.
That's all for now. Please feel free to share your own dawn-of-spring reflections. I'd love to hear!
